We believe Despegar has the broadest travel services portfolio among travel companies in Latin America, with a global inventory supplied by approximately 238 airlines, 660,000 hotels and vacation rentals, 1,260 car rental agencies, as well as 800 destination services providers offering more than 12,000 leisure activities.
Our business benefits from network effects: our large customer base helps us attract additional travel suppliers and, in turn, an expanding network of suppliers helps us attract new travel customers with expanded and continually enhanced product offerings. Additionally, as we continue growing our travel marketplace, we are increasingly able to offer more competitive pricing and product availability to our travel customers as well as enhance the effectiveness of our marketing strategy.
We launched our award-winning mobile travel app in 2012. Our app is an increasingly important part of our business, as it allows consumers to seamlessly access and browse our real-time inventory of travel products, easily compare prices, and transact through their mobile devices quickly.
As of December 31, 2021, Despegar's travel app had approximately 60.1 million cumulative downloads from the iOS App Store and Google Play, 14.5 million of which were downloaded in the last two years. We believe they are the most downloaded OTA apps in Latin America. During each of 2021, 2020 and 2019, mobile accounted for approximately 71%, 60% and 60% of all our user visits, and approximately 46%, 46% and 39%, respectively, of our transactions purchased on our mobile platform, complementing our desktop website traffic. As internet, smartphone and other mobile device penetration continues to increase in Latin America, we believe our strength in mobile applications will continue to be a strategic advantage in its travel market.
Through mobile and online marketing, brand promotion and cross-marketing, we have created strong brand recognition among Latin America travelers, which we view as one of our key competitive advantages. To date, we have invested more than $1.5 billion in marketing and branding initiatives to promote and further strengthen our brands. Additionally, the quality of service we have consistently delivered over the years has made Despegar a trusted brand with our travel customers. In 2021, 2020 and 2019, 55%, 65% and 64% of our travel customers had made previous purchases on our platform.
